Tips: Can a 60Hz motor run on a 50Hz power supply?
The motors can run at any frequency starting a few Hz until over frequency (a realistic one), the variable frequency drive can do that, as you know. But the motor has to be cooled, and ventilated by attached coolers /ventilators. There are a lot of applications when the motors are run at frequencies between 10 Hz and 60 Hz (with variable frequency drives) for long periods without problems. The main condition is to be cooled! Instead, the very low frequency (for example around 5 Hz) is more difficult because you have to inject a higher current and could become dangerous, so it can be done but not for a long period.
